memo on being in the same boat

We must, indeed, all hang together,
or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.
-Ben Franklin

to the New York poet
who admires poets
in Oklahoma and Texas
who do what they do
in the belly of the beast

I say yes yes yes,
but when you say I can say
what I say all day
in New York, but

never forget the talk you
talk, the walk you walk,
is in the same beast’s
belly and you are
most lost when,
in, you think yourself
out to save lost souls elsewhere.
