An Amarillo poet says the sky here makes you feel
as big as you are not as big as you think
you are, and I think I know
what he means. I’ve been lost
beneath blue sky
on snow
from horizon to horizon,
and I’ve seen storms blow in
that were not still but said be still
and know. And I believe
the question is how we act
when we feel smaller than we
can say. The fact of that feeling
may not be what we mean when we say
but it is what we mean when we play
god.
