Walking is a practice of meditation for me, and it is in that practice that most of my poems and paintings come to me. That is certainly true of the poems and paintings in this collection. The first half of this year has been a time in which my meditation has, even more than usual, circulated around the concepts of “shelter” (or sanctuary) and place. Space, as the phenomenologists like to say, is transformed into place by dwelling. I have found that walking is one of the best ways to dwell on it. These poems and paintings respond to an extraordinary time; but more importantly, they dwell on the space that defines the neighborhood in Chicago that I have called home for more than forty years. I shared the collection (which consists of 24 poems and 7 images created between February and June 2020) with a small circle of friends, and they encouraged me to publish it. | follow this link to view and/or download the pdf in a new tab.
